The vibe: Cold. It’s really cold. But
then again, what else did you expect?
Location: Traverse City, Michigan
Date: November 8th
The Iceman Cometh Challenge is a 29-mile, point-to-point mountain bike race from Kalkaska to Traverse City,
Michigan. Over $52,000 in cash prizes and $10,000 in
merchandise prizes will be awarded to riders of all abilities.
Afterwards, riders can head over to the after-party where
many riders can finally take their gloves off. You may be
sharing a story with a guy you’ve been battling all season
long, or find yourself taking a spot at the bar next to Gary
Fisher himself. ❏
ALAFIA FAT TIRE FESTIVAL
ICE MAN COMETH
The vibe: Forgiving and fun;
test your skills on some of the
sweetest singletrack Florida has
Location: Brandon, Florida
Dates: November 7–9th
The Alafia River State Park Fat Tire Festival is a
great mountain bike ride weekend, with fun and
entertainment in Florida for all registered attendees.
With unique topography that offers some of the most
radical elevation changes in Florida, the Alafia River
State Park mountain bike trails are some of Florida’s
most challenging. The Moonscape and Gatorback trails
were specifically designed for advanced riders. The
less-technical Bridges and North Creek trails provide
a real adventure for any experienced cyclist. For new
riders, there’s Sand Pine, Rock Garden and River Loop,
plus all the two-track.
Boyette’s trails are forgiving enough for newer riders
while still offering an exciting ride for the veteran.
Heed our advice: Trust us, the first instinct of any rider in this
environment is to try to ride every bike and every trail. Instead,
take your time, survey the scene and make your rides count.
