The Sea Otter Classic began as a riding destina- tion/celebration for all types of cyclists, and that hasn’t changed. The 2012 Sea Otter Classic had cross-country racing, dual slalom, downhill, jumping, pumping, and trail riding for
mountain bikers and professional road racing, criterium events, a
GranFondo and even cyclocross for the skinny-tire group.
Having this many hardcore enthusiasts in one place didn’t escape
the notice of the bike, component and apparel companies. They
have found Sea Otter to be a great place to contact the riders who
matter most to them, and that’s you. Because of this, the Otter has
become an unofficial launching point for new products and a place
to throw out new product ideas and see the riders’ reactions.
The Mountain Bike Action wrecking crew were like kids in a candy
store when roaming the hundreds of displays at the Otter. While
impossible to show everything, we asked the crew—Jimmy, Mike,
Doug and Scott (John Ker was shooting race action)—to pick out
the products that caught their attention. Here is what we found. ;
