DON’T TRY TO IMPRESS
Okay, this is more of a courtesy thing
than a riding tip, but you do not impress any
of the horseback riders or hikers by blistering past them. Your Strava KOM time is also
not as important as the wellbeing of fellow
trail users. Sorry to preach right out of the
gate here, but if you’re riding too fast, you
probably already know it. If you think you
might be riding too fast, you probably are.
Just stop it, literally, and let the other trail
users enjoy the same dirt you’re on without
fear of being run over by what they see as a
mountain biker thug.

When you’re riding so fast you can hard-ly see the trail that’s in front of you, there is
no time to react. Not only does this put you
at more risk for a crash, it makes you slower. It also saps energy, which will make you
slower towards the end of long rides. Using
the brakes to ride smoother and more controlled through technical sections will make
you faster overall. Rather than thinking fast,
