Casey Brown—Madeira Island, Portugal (2016): We’d spent
the week discovering Madeira Island on a Trek photo shoot.
The island has high volcanic peaks above the ocean coastline
where fog rolls in daily in the late afternoon. We were getting
fogged out at times, and late in the day the sun started to
reveal itself again to our delight. For maybe five minutes we
had this incredible lighting situation unfold, and I had the riders
hustling back and forth in this once-in-a-lifetime lighting display.
It’s certainly one of my all-time favorite moments and photos.
Our sport is so cool in that it can take you to so many different
landscapes and lighting situations, and that keeps it so fresh
