SYNCROS SADDLE BAG KIT
Low and inside for those quick rides
If you are wearing a sizable hydration pack for short rides, you are
hauling around extra weight for no
reason. Syncros understands this and
offers the minimalistic $24.99 saddle
bag kit for quick and dirty rides.
Tech features: The Syncros saddle
bag kit comes in three wheel sizes.
That is not a typo. The bags come prepacked with your choice of a 26-, 27-
or 29-inch Presta valve tube and two
interlocking tire tools. Nothing else.
The bag is made from 420D
Honeycomb Rip-Stop, 210D polyester
and tarpaulin, and has a water-repellent, rubberized zipper. On the MBA
scale, the 26er kit weighed 6.1 ounces.
The 27 was 7. 8 ounces and the 29er
was 8. 3 ounces. A Velcro strap secures
the bag to your saddle’s rails. Syncros
has an excellent dealer locator tool on
their website so you can find a bike
shop in your area that sells the saddle
bag kit (and other Syncros products).
Field test results: The little bag
pretty much disappears when it is
tucked up under your saddle and
secured with its Velcro strap. You will
be hard pressed to notice the addition-
al weight, and since the bag is held
tightly, there is no movement or bang-
ing around as you bounce along the
trail. While the bag’s packaging claims
a “waterproof” zipper, that is a little
misleading. The bag is definitely not
waterproof. It’s not a big deal, though,
because the tube and tire tools are not
affected by moisture.
You might think this is an insignificant product to devote a “Field Test”
to, but we disagree. If you are lugging
around a heavy hydration pack on
shorter rides, try replacing it with a
water bottle mounted in your bike, a
Syncros saddle bag kit on the saddle
and a CO2 inflator in your pocket. You
will feel like you just lost 5 pounds,
which you probably did.
Syncros offers a whooping 21
different saddle- and frame-mounted
bags if you are looking for a bit more
capacity than what the saddle bag
kit provides. But, for those quick
rides where you don’t stray too far
from home, the saddle bag kit gets it
Bare minimum: You get a tube, two tire
tools, and enough extra space for your
keys and pizza money.
Low and inside: The minimalistic Syncros
saddle bag kit tucks up under the saddle
so tight that you don’t know it is there.
