One Industries got their start making graphics and seat
covers for motocross bikes in the late ’70s before transitioning into motocross gear and helmets. While moto gear and
downhill gear have often been considered one and the same,
in 2012, One Industries decided to offer a dedicated line of
mountain bike apparel and helmets, including all-mountain
and trail-oriented designs.
Tech features: One’s Alliance jersey and Sector shorts
are on the lightweight end of their apparel spectrum.
Designed for hot summer days on the trail, the Alliance jersey is constructed of 100-percent polyester with anti-micro-bial and moisture-wicking qualities. The Alliance features
mesh panels under the arms, a half-zip collar and a low-pro-file pocket at the lower back with a zipper closure. There is
also a section of micro-fiber material sewn into the bottom of
the jersey on the inside to clean eyewear.
The Sector shorts are mostly polyester, with some
polyurethane mixed in, and offer four-way, ripstop construction. Large mesh panels are designed to keep air flowing
through. The shorts also feature a detachable inner liner,
media pocket just below the waistline in the rear, two low-profile and zippered pockets, a micro-fiber cloth housed in
the side pocket, and dual hook-and-loop waist adjusters.
The Alliance jersey is available in gray (tested) and black
and in sizes small through XXL. It retails for $60. The Sector
shorts are available in chartreuse (tested) and black and
come in sizes 28 through 38. They sell for $120.
Field test results: The Alliance jersey has a tailored fit,
but not so much that it could be mistaken for a cross-country racing jersey. The material is flexible, conforming to your
body as you move around on the bike, and the slim cut
means that there isn’t a lot of excess jersey to flap around in
The jersey breathes incredibly well thanks to the underarm mesh panels, yet the main fabric does not feel overly
thin and held up well, even after dozens of test rides and
subsequent trips to the washing machine. The collar’s wide
design is comfortable and doesn’t feel restrictive, even when
zipped all the way up. We also liked the detail of the soft
microfiber flap to protect the rider’s neck from the closed
Like the Alliance jersey, the Sector shorts are lightweight,
breathable and very flexible. While the jersey is clearly
designed for warm weather, the Sector shorts take it one or
two steps further. They use one of the largest mesh panels
found on a mountain bike short, and it’s front and center.
The mesh breathes incredibly well and aids in the overall
flexibility of the shorts. Of course, the flip side is that you
can see right through it. This mesh panel, along with the
very thin primary material used for the rest of the shorts,
means you wouldn’t want to get caught without the inner
liner or your favorite pair of bibs underneath.
For most of our testing, we ditched the included inner
liner and used the Sectors with our own bibs underneath.
The combination was awesome. We hardly noticed that the

shorts were there. Also, with the adjustable waist straps,
we never had problems with them riding low.
While the lightweight nature of the shorts means that
they feel a bit less substantial than many other trail shorts,
they proved rugged. A separation issue on one of the Velcro
waist straps and some very faint discoloration in the seat
area took a star off the rating. The black Sectors would
probably stay looking perfectly fresh longer.
Overall, we were impressed with One Industries’ foray
into the mountain biking world. The gear is extremely
comfortable, does what it aims to do by ventilating incredibly well, and it also is very flexible. Of course, we also
think it looks great. ;
