Tires are the most difficult component to dissect and understand. Even when you settle on the right tread pattern for your terrain, there are still
a dozen different casings, sizes and rubber-compound
versions of it. And, to make matters worse, sifting
through the mountains of information only serves to confuse riders more. We’re willing to bet that most riders
resort to throwing a dart at a bike shop’s wall of tires
and hoping it will hit the right one.
This shootout was designed to blow through the fog.
We reveal the true tire measurements and evaluate performance based on real trail time. We rode the tires on
our trails, weighed them on a surgically accurate gram
scale, and measured them with a micrometer that’s accurate enough to measure the width of a human hair.
Here’s what we found.
