I was lucky enough to get invited to be a
part of a MacGillivray-Freeman Production
of “National Parks Adventure,” a 3D IMAX
Park. This is an amazing slickrock play-
ground and is absolutely stunning visually.
The riding is really fun as well, with tons of
rolls, drops, jumps and wall rides.
Usually when shooting a video we can
bring everything we need in backpacks and
ride on bikes to wherever we need to go.
This shoot was a little different, since we
had to shoot on large-format, 70-millim-
ter, reel-to-reel film. The primary camera
Eric Porter and Jess
into the Toilet Bowl,
feature at Bartlett’s.

camera on a gimbal. Apparently, Red cameras just
barely shoot good-enough-quality footage to be
used in an IMAX movie. Photo: Eric Porter
Hitting laps on a big drop: Greg MacGillivray running the big IMAX camera as
Porter rides off the Mushroom Drop again! He had to hit the drop close to 20 times
for all the different camera angles! Photo: Miriam B. Weiner
