Juliana Furtado’s Strongest
Effort Since Winning The Worlds
Santa Cruz Bikes has introduced a revamped Juliana line of women-specific bikes, led by mountain biking
icon Juliana Furtado. The Juliana line consists of four models, starting with the $1650 Nevis hardtail and
going up to the pro-level, dual-suspension trailbike, the $5999 Furtado. Wheel options throughout the line
include everything from 26 to 27. 5 to 29ers.
Let’s ride: Juliana Furtado (center) went over the
details of her new line, and then had the assembled
reporters suit up to get a first-hand feel for the new
bikes on the trails where they were inspired.
Follow the leader: “I came away from the Furtado feeling that this is indeed
the ultimate enduro bike,” explained Natasha Hernday, an honorary wrecking
crewer who tests female-specific products. “It’s one of the best all-mountain
bikes I’ve ridden: carbon, light, easy to pedal uphill and descends beautifully.
It’s the women’s version of the Bronson—super sweet!” Juliana leads her
Nevis: This new aluminum
hardtail sports interchangeable
dropouts (so you can run it as
a single-speed), Juliana
Mountain compact bar
and grip system (for
smaller hands) and
to better match the
rider’s height. It uses
26-inch wheels on
the extra-small frames
and gets bumped to
29ers for the rest.
The queen’s throne: Made of carbon fiber (there is
also an aluminum-framed version), the top-of-the-line $5999 Furtado sports 4. 9 inches of travel out of
a Virtual Pivot Point rear suspension. And yes, those
are 27.5-inch wheels.
Need to remove a pair of slide-on grips quickly? Take a
dull flat-blade screwdriver to make a gap between the grip
and bar, and spray in a little isopropyl alcohol. This will
make it easy to slide the grip off by hand. Note, don’t use
this tip on carbon fiber, because the screwdriver can
damage the bar.
